A 5K Walk/Run will be held at Bell Park on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm in memory of Dona Ellenwood and her life of service to others. One of the projects Dona was involved with over the years was Operation Christmas Child, a global project of Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief and evangelism organization led by Franklin Graham. Because of Dona’s passion for this ministry, the annual focus of the 5K Walk is collecting shoe box donations to provide age-appropriate Christmas gifts to needy children around the world. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to these children.

The entire community is invited to take part in this event. If you plan to walk or run, pre-registration forms are available at Greenwood Dance Studio, 608 W. Center Street, Greenwood, AR or First Baptist Church, Greenwood, AR. The requested entry fee is one or more filled shoe boxes with items for Operation Christmas Child. Shoe boxes are available at the dance studio and church, along with the registration forms.

Encourage your friends and family to fill a shoe box even if they do not plan to walk. Each shoe box should contain small items for a child (boy or girl, age-specific) that will be shipped to a young child around the world who perhaps otherwise would not receive Christmas gifts.

Gift suggestions include pencils, crayons, coloring books, small cars, dolls, pocket games, etc. Battery-powered toys should include extra batteries, if possible. More gift ideas and information about Operation Christmas Child can be found at SamaritansPurse.org.

Your shoe box can be dropped off at the Greenwood Dance Studio during the hours of 5-7pm prior to November 10 or you may bring it on the day of the event.
