Our dear and precious mother, Charlene Shelton Miller, 86 of Hackett, Arkansas passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Fianna Health and Rehab. She was a homemaker, lifelong resident of Hackett and member of Hackett First Baptist Church. She was born July 14, 1928 in Hackett to Cecil and Evelyn (Schrum) Fulgham. She grew up during the great depression and learned the value of a dollar and hard work and passed it on to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, reading, especially Drucilla Hughart’s column in the local Greenwood Democrat, sewing for her girls when they were young, canning, gardening, pretty flowers and bird watching. She was a great cook; her daughters especially enjoyed her beans and cornbread, fried okra and cheesecake.
She is survived by four daughters, Paula Cass and Lisa McBride both of Hackett, Karen Donaldson and Melanie Garner both of Fort Smith; six granddaughters, Tracey Slote, Kimberly Fisher, Jessica Black, Annie Taylor, Ruby Shelton and Alex McBride; two grandsons, Wesley Farrar and Matthew Garner; five great granddaughters, Kala Hall, Jami Meyer, Brooklyn, Jenna and Stephanie Black; two great grandsons, Sam and Jake Fisher; one great great granddaughter, Alyssa Hall; one great great grandson, Jaxson Meyer; two sisters, Betty Basinger and Nancy Duncan; one brother, Leon Fulgham; a special niece that has been her hairdresser for over 35 years, Carol Ann Clark, who was kind enough to have come to the Rehab Center to do her hair and her loyal canine companion, TOTO. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Paul D. Shelton; her second husband, Doyce Miller; her son, Tommy Shelton; grandson, Robert; great great grandsons, Andrew and Aiden; her parents, Cecil and Evelyn Fulgham; four brothers, Ralph, Bobby, Billy and Jimmy Fulgham; one sister, Annie Carlton and two baby brothers, Jackie and Paul Ross Fulgham.
Funeral service were at 10 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Hackett. Pastor Ben Fisher will be officiating.
Pallbearers were Adam Hall, Garret Meyer, Marlin Donaldson, Kent Patterson, Leon Slote, Wesley Farrar, Mark Garner and Matthew Garner.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care she received from her day nurse, Johnnie and day CNA, Tammy and staff at Fianna Health and Rehab.
