The 2014 Sebastian County Spelling Bee will be held on Saturday, January 25 and will begin at 9 a.m. The Bee will take place in the Breedlove Auditorium at the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith. The public is welcome to attend the Spelling Bee and there is no admission charge.

This is the 30th year BancorpSouth has provided both physical and financial support in the form of a corporate sponsorship. The Bee will be broadcast on Saturday, February 1 from 8:30-9 a.m. on KXNW Channel 34 (Cox Cable Channel 8 in the River Valley).

The 2014 Spelling Bee Coordinator is Principal Carl Hill from Barling Elementary, assisted by Principal Tanya Smith of Carnall Elementary. The pronouncer will be Dr. Joe Hardin, a professor in the College of Language and Communication at UAFS. Judges are Dr. Ken Hamilton, Dr. Karen Hollenbeck and Principal Sherri Penix.

There are 38 contestants including from our area Paige Driscoll (East Pointe Elementary), Olivia Brown (Greenwood Junior High), Falton Colwell (Hackett Elementary), Seth Brock (Hartford Elementary), Samantha Davis (Hartford Junior High) and Eden Adams (Westwood Elementary).
