Dr. Kay Johnson Headley, retiring Greenwood School Superintendent, will be the guest speaker at this Friday’s graduation ceremony for the GHS Class of 2013. Dr. Headley is the former Kay Bridges, GHS Class of ‘68. In 1969, she married Donnie Johnson, GHS Class of ’67, and they had two sons, Lee and Brad. Dr. Lee Johnson and his wife, Dr. Jennifer Johnson, have three children, Will, Luke and Wesley. Dr. Brad Johnson and his wife, Dr. Sandy Johnson, have two children, Mark and Anna. In 2010, Dr. Kay’s husband, Donnie, passed away unexpectedly.

Dr. Kay completed her Elementary Education degree at the College of the Ozarks in 1977 and taught at Greenwood Elementary for eight years. She later pursued and completed her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Arkansas. In 1986, she took a position at County Line as Elementary School Principal. In 1991, County Line asked her to serve as their Superintendent and she held that position for eight years. She left County Line for the University of Arkansas Fort Smith where she served three years as Director of the Western Arkansas Technical Center.

In 2002, Dr. Kay returned to Greenwood as the school’s Superintendent. During her eleven years in that capacity, Greenwood Schools have seen tremendous growth in both student enrollment and facility expansion. The district has also experienced an increase in available activities and opportunities for Greenwood students.

Dr. Kay served on numerous state and national committees. Some of which include Comprehensive Juvenile Services, Association for Career and Technical Education, Arkansas Association of Two Year Colleges, Region 4 Career Opportunities Partnership and Arkansas Leadership Academy. Her commitment and dedication were acknowledged in 2012, as she was selected as the Arkansas Superintendent of the Year.

Recently Dr. Kay married Mr. Glen Headley, and together, they made the decision to begin their retirement this year.

Please join us Friday night at 7:30 P.M. at the Smith-Robinson Stadium as we honor the Class of 2013 and hear Dr. Kay Headley’s parting words to the Greenwood seniors and their families and friends.
