Amidst all of the new construction happening in Greenwood these days two notable changes have take place. The first being the new gateway sign welcoming citizens and visitors alike to the city. The metal and rock sign can been seen near the park-and-ride at the intersection of Hwy. 71 and Hwy. 10 Spur.

According to Mayor, Doug Kinslow, the new Greenwood sign is unique in the state of Arkansas as it is the only sign that has been allowed in the highway right of way. The city submitted a special request for a permit to place the sign in the right of way last year and was granted permission to build the structure.

The sign is nearly complete and is just lacking the new city logo. The project was paid for out of the general fund along with a donation of the brick by the Acme Brick Company in Fort Smith.

Kinslow stated that he is currently looking for a way to light the sign at night.

The new logo was rolled out in Feb. of 2016 and has now been added to the city’s flag. The new logo features the Clock Tower on Town Square and the slogan; “Greenwood feels like home” Also included in the logo is a tree representing the city’s membership in the “Tree City USA” program.

“We decided that it was time to refresh the city’s logo,” said Kinslow. “Nothing was wrong with the old logo but it needed to be updated.”

Over the last two years the logo has been added to things such as letterheads and business cards as updates were made. “We did not throwing anything away,” said Kinslow. “We did not spend a lot of money. But we have added the logo as needed to such things as new vehicles as they come. We need to be able to identify our city vehicles.”

The flag will be added to the courthouse flag poles and to local banks in the near future.
