The local civic group Focus on Greenwood has been a service organization since 2010 with the goal of raising money to provide at least two annual scholarships to graduating Greenwood high school seniors (this year they gave away three $2,000 scholarships), providing medical assistance to Greenwood students, and helping local residents in need of financial assistance. In addition, they have provided funds to a variety of special requests from Greenwood schools, participated in the annual Teacher's Appreciation Luncheon, brought Christmas gifts to senior angels in local retirement centers, and sponsored the Blessing Box located at the Greenwood Speed-E-Mart and assisted the Greenwood Police Department with Cops, Kids and Christmas.
“All of the money that we raise throughout the year stays here in Greenwood,” said FOG President, Biffy Jesse. “We give to the Bulldog Breakfast Club as well as the East Point snack pantry and the Westwood snack pantry for kids to help with kids that don’t bring snacks and so we are able to help families in that way.”
The group’s motto is "Focusing on the community of Greenwood, Arkansas and providing assistance to those in need." FOG is committed to continue to work hard and do our part to make Greenwood a great place to live.
FOG has big plans for the remainder of the year. Jesse, stated that the organization plans on holding a 5K race around Halloween and a murder mystery dinner theater in August.
Focus on Greenwood meets on the first and third Wednesday at Farmers Bank where they typically have a guest speaker address the group. To join FOG you can contact them on their Facebook page to obtain an application. The group currently has 75 members
