Common Core Listening Tour

Join Lt. Gov Tim Griffin and other Teachers as they discuss and take questions from the community about PARCC assessments and Common Core State Standards. Meeting will be held June 18th at the Blue Lion in Downtown Fort Smith from 5-7pm.

Community Services Clearinghouse

True Grit Ride 100 last year was able to net a $50,000 gift to the Clearinghouse to use for food and related programs (most notable is the Backpacks for Kids which supplies food to children for the days outside of school). Greenwood Chamber Quarterly Meeting

Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Meeting will be held June, 25 at the Ed Wilkinson Bell Park Pavilion at 12:00 noon. Guest Speaker will be Michael Lejong, Architect with MAHG Architecture, Inc. Reservations must be made by June 22. Lunch is $10 per person and may be paid in advance or at the door.

The South Sebastian County Historical Society

Will celebrate the life of early resident Henry Norwood and re-dedicate the Norwood-Mt. Olive Cemetery at a reception Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 2 PM at the Farmer’s Bank Community Room. Mr. Norwood came to Greenwood following his emancipation from slavery. A photo exhibit will trace his life from birth through his death at age 102 years. Two of Mr. Norwood’s grandsons will speak. The Society will recognize those who restored Greenwood’s Norwood-Mt. Olive Cemetery where many Norwood descendants are interred. A brief re-dedication of the cemetery will occur after the reception. All are welcome. This event is made possible by a Curtis S. Sykes Grant from the Arkansas Black History Commission.
