Greenwood’s Regan Jones scored four of her team’s five goals to advance the Lady Bulldogs to the second round of the 6A State Tournament with a 5-0 win against Texarkana.

Greenwood will play top-seeded El Dorado at noon today in Russellville in the quarterfinals.

Jones netted two of her goals in the first half, in the 12th and 29th minutes, then another pair in the second in the 56th and 62nd. The scoring was capped by a Texarkana own-goal in the final moments.

Greenwood coach Andrew Post was happy to get such a decisive margin in the opener considering much of the year his team had to play a counter-attacking style against 7A opponents.

"You can preach it and preach it with the girls, but a lot of times seeing is believing," Post said. "Huge win for them to understand they’re a good team. They confirmed that with the game today. We’ll go in tomorrow with that attitude. El Dorado is going to be a battle."

The boys, too, advanced with a handy 6-1 win against Sheridan.

Jared Cooper, Levi Alvarez and Evan Lensing all scored in the first half as the Bulldogs cruised a 3-0 halftime lead. Alvarez made it a brace with a score in the second half, his brother, Deon, made it 5-0 on a free kick in the 76th minute and Elijah Winn had a final goal with just seconds remaining to lift Greenwood to the quarterfinals.

Sheridan’s lone goal came in the 77th when Greenwood was called for a handball inside the box and the Yellowjackets converted the penalty.

"They played very, very well," Post said of his boys team. "They came out wanting to win. They looked pretty driven. WE ruled the play tonight."

The Greenwood boys play Lake Hamilton at 3 p.m. today.
