On April 12th and 13th, Taylor Compton finished as runner-up in Independence, Missouri at 133 lbs. Wrestlers finishing in the top eight are considered to be an All-American. Taylor pinned Caydon Cooper from Missouri in 1:52 in his first wrestling match. In his second match, he pinned Trey Brown from Florida in 5:09. In the quarter-finals, he defeated Tyler Andrus from South Dakota 5-2. In the semi-finals, he defeated Jonah Ribera from Texas 6-2. In the finals, he lost a close decision to Robert Lee from Wisconsin 3-0. Lee was a 2-time State Champion from Wisconsin and had pinned all 4 of his previous opponents. “Taylor wrestled as good as he possibly could have. Taylor’s goal is to try to go back next year and win it. Brett Calhoun the other state champion from Greenwood was scheduled to wrestle in the prestigious tournament but hurt his shoulder a couple of weeks before the tournament. Brett finished 4th at Independence last year,” Coach John Kincade explained.
