Borota accepts UCA scholarship

Amy M. Borota of Greenwood, Ark. has accepted an academic scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas beginning in August with the 2009 fall term.

She plans to major in Chemistry.

UCA awards academic scholarships, renewable for seven consecutive semesters, based on ACT scores, grade point average, and class rank, as well as National Merit and National achievement competition.

She is the daughter of Jim and Kay Borota of Greenwood. Her grandparents are Nancy Dreibelbers of Camanche, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Borota Sr of Clinton, Iowa.

Borota is a graduate of Greenwood High School where she was the Senior Class Vice-President, a member of Student Council, basketball, soccer, Beta Club, Chem Club, FCA, NHS, Renaissance, Who's Who-Best All Around, and named to State Soccer All Tournament Team. She ranked 11 in her class.

Local Students Graduate from University of Arkansas

University of Arkansas chancellor G. David Gearhart is pleased to announce that the following local students successfully completed their course requirements and officially graduated from the University of Arkansas during commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 9, at the conclusion of the spring, 2009 semester.

Graduates from our area include:

Greenwood: Christopher Bell-Bachelor of Science; Jeffrey Cavallo-Bachelor of Arts; Austin Corbin-Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Melody Dittmer-Bachelor of Arts; Micah Fritsche-Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering; Whitney Hocott-Bachelor of Science; Kathryn Luck-Bachelor of Arts; Nova-Dawn Mauldin-Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering; Eric Melton- Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering; Weston Passmore-Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Whitney Terrell- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Mansfield: Natasha Bailey-Master of Science.

WTAMU Awards Diplomas to Spring Graduates

Degrees were officially conferred on West Texas A&M University students during spring commencement exercises May 9 at the First United Bank Center. The University awarded 559 baccalaureate and 145 master's degrees.

Graduates with an overall grade point average of 3.50 or higher were recognized as honor graduates and wore gold honor cords. The three levels of honor recognition are Summa Cum Laude (3.90-4.00), Magna Cum Laude (3.75-3.89) and Cum Laude (3.50-3.74). The WTAMU Class of 2009 included 28 graduates with Summa Cum Laude honors, 46 students with Magna Cum Laude honors and 72 with Cum Laude honors. Ten students also were recognized as Attebury Honors Scholars.

The graduating class represented 18 states and 120 Texas cities and towns.

Graduating from our area: Sarah E Loyd, BBA, General Business. Loyd was named also named to the deans list for having a GPA between 3.50 and 3.99 and carrying a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours.

Davis receives ATU scholarship

Corie Janelle Davis of Greenwood has received a Univesity Scholarship from Arkansas Tech University beginning with the fall 2009 semester. She plans to major in nursing. Her honors and awards include National Honor Society, Beta Club, Faculty Roll, Renaissance Card holder, Co-Captain of the GHS Pom Squad. Davis is the daughter of Aubrey and Tammy Remage.
