2018 has been ushered in with COLD, COLD weather. No snow but with a dipping cold wind. Where did 2017 go? It was like a whirl wind passing by. Could it be my age? I hear so many of my friends (my age) saying the same thing. There are a few things that never go away through the years. Things such a eating blackeye peas on New Year’s Day. I try to see that each member of my family eat at least a bite of peas. I know the tradition is like an old wives tale but you can bet that I always have my bite. I still stay up past midnight in order see the New Year in and the old one out. I no longer attend New Year’s Eve Parties. I don’t think a Watch Party is the same as it was back in the olden days. Today they are dress up parties. You can say they are really parties with lots of food of every kind. I was thinking how funny it would be to have a party with lots of guest and serving popcorn and hot chocolate made from fresh milk with marshmallows floating on top. Add a tub of water with apples waiting to be bobbed for. You would be the talk of the town for years. “Crazy Woman”. No table after table of food and booze—just plain fun. I really haven’t lost my mind just thinking of the fun one could have. There used to be a ball drop in Creekmore Park on New Year’s Eve. One year I sneaked three of the Greats out of the house and took them to see it. Their Mother was asleep and didn’t know it. Today I just walk out on the patio and listen to the night sounds thinking of days gone by. The fun we had at the Greenwood Methodist Church in the olden days. Thankful to see the New Year in. May each of you have a HEALTHY, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
