Earlier this month, Westwood Elementary participated in the U.S. Sumdog National Math Contest. Over 112,000 students from 1,630 schools all over the country participated.

The Westwood team placed 1st in the entire nation with schools from Indiana and New Jersey at 2nd and 3rd. Bonneville Elementary in Fort Smith, at 8th place, was the only other Arkansas school in the top 10.

Westwood was awarded a Web 2.0 site licence worth nearly $6,000.

The team from Westwood consisted of 85 fourth and fifth graders. Hayden Weaver placed highest at 29 of 112,630 by correctly answering 991 out of 1,000 questions. His average speed was 1.9 seconds per answer.
