Race Director Randy Davis shows his appreciation to Troy Gaston with the Walters, Gaston, Allison & Parker Law Firm for their continued support and sponsorship of the FreedomFest 5K, taking place on July 4th. Gaston’s wife Jody, a runner herself, was also present.
The Walters & Gaston sponsorship will go toward the chip timing of this year’s race.
Chip timing is a method in which the race is timed electronically, insuring a more accurate time for the runner.
"Our race in Greenwood has become a tradition," Davis states. "The 4th of July race continues to grow yearly, I attribute a lot of that to the chip timing. It is a faster, more accurate way of timing the runners."
A new added feature this year is online registration. Runners can register online this year by going to https://mylaps.racepartner.com/greenwoodfreedomfest5k/.
This year’s race will take place on July 4 at 7:30 a.m. with the check-in beginning at 6:30 a.m. at the Means Wilkinson Community Room Center at Farmers Bank. Pre-registration is $20, on or before June 30, $30 thereafter, T-Shirts will be given to the first 300 registrants.
Cash prizes will be given to the race participant with the most patriotic themed attire. "The race is a challenging race," Davis says. "People either really like or hate the course because of the hills. Now we would like to add a little something to it to make it a unique, enjoyable, fun run. I’d like to see every runner wearing some kind of patriotic attire, it would be awesome to see red, white and blue on the race route on July 4th."
