Last year, the Greenwood City Council formed an Annexation Committee to study the areas surrounding Greenwood for possible expansion. The committee was under the direction of the Planning Commission and made regular reports to the City Council. The final report was delivered Monday evening to both the Planning Commission and the City Council.
In addition to the seven areas recommended for annexation by the committee last year, the parcels of land adjacent to Highway 10 out to Highway 71 and adjacent to Highway 71 from Mt. Zion Road to several miles past Highway 10.
These annexations would mean a sizable increase to the land and population of Greenwood as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional revenue.
The City Council is expected to decide on whether or not to proceed with annexation at the next Council Meeting, scheduled for April 7, 2014.
