On Monday, November 11, 2013, members of the military and their families were invited to attend as East Hills Middle School staff and students honored those who have served our great country. The ceremony included the unveiling and dedication of a structure depicting the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. The structure was then dedicated in honor of Mr. John C. Milam & Mr. Therral Henry.

John Milam served in the Air Force from 1960-1964 as Crew Chief in the 81st Bomb Wing, Strategic Air Command. He is a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Mr. Milam is an integral part of the East Hills staff and is solely responsible for the amazing structure that now resides on the East Hills campus.

Therral Henry served in the Marine Corp and stood on the shores of Iwo Jima as an 18 year old. As our nation’s flag was raised to show that the Americans had captured the island from the Japanese, Marine Corp Private Therral Henry stood at attention, saluted that flag and renewed his commitment to our nation.

East Hills Middle School students and staff would like to thank these two amazing men and to all of those who have served, are serving, or have had loved ones who served to ensure that our country remain the land of the free and the home of the brave.
