The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce held its General Membership Meeting last Thursday at the Senator Ed Wilkinson Community Pavilion at Bell Park. Chamber president, Norman Wilkinson, welcomed all the members and guests and announced new members. The benediction was led by Pastor Ronnie Deal of First Baptist Church. Rozanne Sterling introduced the keynote speaker, Corporal David Passen from the Van Buren Police Department.

Passen was the the first on the scene during the shooting at the Crawford County Courthouse on September 13, 2011. Passen was named 2012 Officer of the Year for the State of Arkansas for his quick actions in response to the incident in which the secretary of a judge was wounded and her assailant was killed.

Passen explained that this incident caused most of the area courthouses to make some changes, including Greenwood’s. "Now there is an armed guard and a metal detector at the entrance [of the court houses] and there’s only one way in and one way out." he added.

Passen graduated from Greenwood High School in 1991 and began his career for the Van Buren Police Department in 2004. Passen is a 20 year Veteran of the US Army and US Air Force where he is a MSGT serving in the role of Security Forces. He has also been recognized for his many achievements with the department, one of these awards is 2nd place Top Shooter Award in 2007.
