The Greenwood High School Quiz Bowl Team garnered their first championship trophy of the season after finishing first out of field of sixteen teams at the Fayetteville High School Invitational. Teams were divided into four round robin playing groups or pools to begin the day. In their initial pool Greenwood defeated Harrison 230 to 120, and Bentonville 240 to 150, before falling to Fort Smith Southside on the last question of the game, 185 to 195. After initial pool play the top two teams from each pool advanced to the championship pools. As the second place team from their initial pool Greenwood faced Conway A and Haas Hall-Fayetteville A, winners of their pools and Haas Hall-Rogers, another pool runner-up. Greenwood lost their first game to Conway A 125 to 310, then defeated Haas Hall-Rogers 235 to 130, and Haas Hall-Fayetteville A 235 to 150. Fortunately for Greenwood, Conway A lost to both Haas Hall teams, leaving Greenwood tied with Haas Hall-Fayetteville A with 2-1 records. Since Greenwood had beaten Haas Hall-Fayetteville A in the head-to-head match and had a higher average score, Greenwood was declared the winner of the pool and advanced to play the other championship pool winner, Fort Smith Southside, in the championship game. In that game, Greenwood avenged the earlier loss to Southside, defeating them 240 to 95 to take the championship. Haas Hall-Fayetteville A took third place defeating the other second place championship pool team, Conway B.
Senior Captain Tyler Merreighn led the Greenwood team in scoring answering 48 individual toss-up questions during the tournament. Senior Amber Alzufari answered 27. Other team members were Seniors Gayla Stilley, Hannah McAdams, and Ashlyn Barton; Junior Alydia Breshear, and Sophomores Jonathan Ivey, Riley Farr, Shayla Woolsey, and Ashlyn Compton. The Greenwood team is coached by Rick Clow.
