Greenwood Special Education Director, Demaris Barnett, has served in education for the last 27 years. Barnett was promoted to the Director position in July from her position as the district coordinator, district testing coordinator and special education designee.
Demaris has served the Greenwood School District for a total of 14 years.
Barnett graduated from Waldron High School, earned her Bachelor of Science in Special Education, a Master of Science in Special Education, and obtained certification in Building Level Administration K-12, and Middle School Social Studies in grades 5-8.
“My father was an educator,” said Barnett. “He was a coach and a math teacher. He encouraged me growing up that by going into education you can be home when your kids are home and in school when your kids are at school and pushed me towards special education because anywhere you end up you will always have a job. And he was right. Every time my husband and I have moved I always had a job.”
Barnett worked in Huntsville for six year, Waldron six years, Greenwood four years, Booneville for a year and back to Greenwood for the last 14 years.
Demaris has been married to her husband, Danny, for 27 years. The Barnetts have two children Nicholas and Daly.
