Celebrated guitarist Todd Mosby will be hosting an “Advanced Improvisation” master class for local residents at 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Blue Lion at UAFS Downtown, located at 101 N. 2nd Street.

Mosby will also be performing at 7:30 p.m. at the same venue that night with his New Horizons Ensemble. The master class is free, but attendees must have purchased tickets to the concert that evening. The UAFS Box Office is offering a $5 discount to class attendees planning to attend the show.

“The improvisation master class is for all student of all instruments, not just limited to guitar players,” Mosby said. “The concepts work across all instruments and genres for that matter. For the jazz students, I will focus mainly on the tunes and chord progressions common to that genre.”

The master class will cover a broad range of topics but will focus on providing students with simple tools used to develop instrumental soloing and performance techniques that can be used in both traditional Jazz and complex modern harmony.

Topics included will cover rhythmic cord and composing considerations as well as the effective use of common music techniques. The class will change to cover the direction of discussion taken during the class and will be catered to the audience’s level of understanding.
