Fort Smith, AR (August 21, 2018) – The Board of Directors of the Degen Foundation announces a new Scholarship Cycle whereby awards will be made for the full academic year for the Fall and Spring Semesters.


Applications will now be accepted once a year between January 1 and March 31st


To assist area students with the cost of higher education while working towards degrees in various medical fields, The Degen Foundation awarded a total of 28 scholarships for the 2018 -2019 Academic Year that totaled 63,000.00. The following scholars applied to the program from the River Valley and Eastern Oklahoma areas: New applicants include the following awardees:


-Emmaline Ahlert of Fort Smith, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of AR where she is working towards her BSN degree.


-Abigail Clemons of Fort Smith, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of AR where she is working towards a BS degree in Communication Disorders.


-Patricia Dollar, BSN of Cameron, OK received a $3,000.00 award to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK where she is working towards her MSN degree.


-Aaron Harris, LPN of Sallisaw, OK received a $2,0000.00 award to Carl Albert State University where he is working towards his RN degree.


-Billie Nelson, LPN, ASN of Alma AR received a $3,000.00 award to Walden University where she is working towards her MSN- FPN degree.


-Casey Newman, AAS - Radiography of Lavaca, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of AR Fort Smith where she is working towards her degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.


-Hannah Payne of Greenwood, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of AR Fort Smith where she is working towards her BSN degree.


-Giau Pham, attending school in Fayetteville, AR and originally from Fort Smith, AR received a $3,000.00 award to UAMS Fayetteville where she is working on her DPT degree.


-Kenli Schuh of Fort Smith, AR, received a $2,000.00 award to University of Arkansas Fort Smith where she is working towards her BSN degree.


-Emma Shields of Fort Smith, AR received a $3,000.00 award to the University of Central Arkansas where she is working towards her DOT degree. Re-applicants include the following awardees:


-Hannah “Reiss” Clemons of Fort Smith, AR received a $3,000.00 award to the University of Central AR where she will be working towards her MS degree in Speech Language Pathology.


-Olivia Davis of Fort Smith, AR received a $2,000.00 award to Oklahoma State University where she is working towards her BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as a pre-med student.


-Hope Ann Durham of Fort Smith, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith where she is working towards a BSN degree.


-Jaimee Flavier of Van Buren, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith where she is working towards her BSN degree.


-Priya Gopal of Van Buren, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Central Arkansas where she is working towards her BSN degree.


-Mallory Heft of Charleston, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the Arkansas Tech University in Russellville where she is working towards her BS degree in Biomed Biology Premed.


-Whitney Hobbs of Charleston, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith where she is working on her BSN degree.


-Breckin Horton of Spiro, OK received a $2,000.00 award to Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN where she is working towards her BS degree in Biochemistry Premed.


-Spencer Mays of Fort Smith, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Arkansas where he is working towards his BSN degree.


-Amber Morgan, attending school in Bolivar, MO but originally from Fort Smith, AR received a $3,000.00 award to Southwest Baptist University where she is working on a DPT degree.


-Kelli Jo Morgan of Wister, OK received a $2,000.00 award to Northeastern State University Tahlequah, where she is working towards her BS degree in Cellular & Molecular Biology (Premed).


-Mikayla Noisey of Vian, OK received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Oklahoma where she is working towards her BS degree in Health & Exercise Science.


-Sarah Schmitz of Charleston, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Central Arkansas where she is working towards her BS degree in Psychology.


-Bailey Smith of Van Buren, AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Central Arkansas where she is working on her BS degree in Special Education – Occupational Therapy.


-Madison Stoudt of Lavaca, AR received a $1,000.00 award to the University of Arkansas where she is working towards a BS degree in Biology Premed.


-Brandy Weidman of Fort Smith, AR received a $3,000.00 award to A.T. Still University where she is working towards her Doctorate in Health Sciences Radiology.


-Bailey Whittington of Fort Smith AR received a $2,000.00 scholarship to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she is working towards a BS degree in Kinesiology.


-Rachel Wingfield of Fort Smith AR received a $2,000.00 award to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith where she is working towards a BS degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.


The Foundation Office is located at 7000 Chad Colley Blvd in Fort Smith, AR, within the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education and Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine building.


The deadline to apply for the first cycle of 2019 for Scholarship Applications ends March 31, 2019.
