A Franklin County rape suspect was arrested in North Dakota on Monday, according to a U.S. Marshals Service news release.
On Jan. 5, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office met with deputy U.S. marshals to request assistance in locating and apprehending Cory Oxford, 26. Oxford was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on two counts of rape and transportation of a minor for prohibited sexual conduct. Oxford had been wanted since July 2016, and his whereabouts were unknown.
After several months of investigation, and through a close partnership with Franklin County, the U.S. Marshals Western Arkansas Fugitive Task Force tracked Oxford to North Dakota. Oxford is believed to have fled to the state after learning of the charges.
Oxford was arrested in Bismarck, N.D. on Monday without incident. He is currently being held at the Burleigh County Jail in North Dakota awaiting extradition to Franklin County, where he will face the charges.
