A transaction in a Greenwood Avenue residence reportedly escalated to an aggravated robbery involving a BB gun Monday afternoon.
According to the Fort Smith Police offense report, at around 1:30 p.m. Monday, officer Al Crelia was dispatched to a residence in the 2500 block of Greenwood Avenue in reference to the reported robbery that had just occurred. Upon his arrival, Crelia talked to a victim and a witness, who stated that the incident stemmed from the victim selling a cellphone to one of the suspects in the doorway of his bedroom.
The suspects — two black men that the victim and witness were able to identify and a white man that they were unable to identify — arrived with two Hispanic women that were able to be identified. The victim said he was selling a Trac phone to one of the black men for $30.
During the transaction, the suspect asked the victim if he had change. The victim pulled some money out of his pocket, at which the suspect grabbed the money and the phone and ran out of the house. The victim later estimated the suspect had taken $40-$50 from him.
When the victim chased after the three suspects, the white man reportedly pulled out a BB gun and fired at him. Crelia observed a BB wound in the victim's ear and impact marks on his bedroom door.
Dispatch informed Crelia that the suspects and the two women had driven north on S. Greenwood Ave in a white Chevrolet Suburban following the incident. The victim and the witness said they thought the suspects sometimes frequented an apartment flat in the 5200 block of Johnson Street, and that one of the women seen with them lived in the flat.
Crelia and other officers were unable to locate any of the suspects or women in the area.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Fort Smith Police Department at (479) 709-5100 or Crime Stoppers at 78-CRIME.
