The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce made the decision to postpone the annual Christmas Parade until Monday Dec. 11 due to severe storms in the forecast.

“Everything that was scheduled for the 4th will still be on for the 11th,” said Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Director, Tanya Taylor.

“I believe this will create an opportunity for even more people to come out to the parade.”

This year the parade will be focusing on collecting canned goods for local food banks as well as for the three blessing boxes around the city. The blessing boxes are located at the Presbyterian Church, the Methodist Church and at the Speed-E-Mart.

The Greenwood Chamber and the City of Greenwood are teaming up on a float that will collect the cans of food along the parade route.

Entry into the parade is free, however, the Chamber is requesting that each participant donate a case of canned food consisting of at least 12 cans.

According to the Chamber there is still plenty of room for more floats in this year’s parade.
