According to the Greenwood High School plans are now being made for the community wide Veterans’ Day Assembly which will be held Friday, November 10, beginning at 10:30 in the Performing Arts Center located on the Greenwood High School Campus. The assembly will be held the day before the National Veterans’s Day observance as the 11th is on a Saturday/ The assembly is hosted by the Hannah Harris VFW Post 6527, the GHS Air Force JrROTC and the GHS Beta Club.
All veterans are asked to participate in the Parade of Veterans as the beginning of the assembly in which groups of veterans will march in according to their branch of service. Veterans are invited to request GHS student escorts during the parade. The escort can be a relative, a neighbor, or friend and must be a part of the GHS student body.
A photo exhibit of local veterans will be on display in the foyer of the PAC. Those who have not previously provided a picture and would like to contribute a picture for this year’s display are asked to bring a photo to the high school office before November 6th. The photo will be scanned immediately and returned. The photo may also be emailed to email@example.com Over 200 pictures of local veterans, living and deceased, those who have served and those who are currently serving, have been collected from the past ten years and will be used for the display. Members of the community are invited to come early to view the special photo display. Local veterans are also invited to bring memorabilia for a display table.
Special seating will be provided for veterans and their families and community attendees in the first ten rows of the Performing Arts Center. Immediately following the assembly all veterans and those serving in the military are asked to come to the stage area for a group picture. The GHS Beta Club, with assistance from Wal-Mart, will again be hosting lunch for the veterans and their families in the Student Union immediately following the picture.
