An Arkansas couple died following a plane crash on Thursday night in a remote soybean field, located about six miles south of Perry in rural Ralls County.

The couple, identified by the Missouri Highway Patrol as Bobby Faulkner, 41, and Shannon Faulkner, 41, of Greenwood, Ark., has taken off in their 2003 Zenith 701 single engine plane. They were pronounced dead at the scene by Ralls County Coroner Robert Van Winkle.

Van Winkle, who was awaiting investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration on Friday afternoon, said the Faulkners died from the trauma of the crash.

“I got a call at 1 a.m. and arrived here about 1:30,” said Van Winkle. “A couple in the place was deceased.”

Their plane crashed in a field located south of Route D and about 400 yards west of Prairieview Road. The plane’s fuselage was in the middle of the field, with at least one wing visible. The couple was reportedly en route to the annual air show at Oshkosh, Wis. It is believed Bobby Faulkner was the pilot of the aircraft.

A call to help located the couple’s plane came around 11:20 p.m. Thursday when the Rescue Coordination Center provided a GPS location in rural Ralls County for troopers to check for the missing plane.

Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ralls County Sheriff’s Office, Ralls County Ambulance District, Perry Fire Department, and Ralls County first responders began checking the area. At about 12:56 a.m. Friday, emergency personnel found the aircraft.
