Amelia’s Gift 5k Run
This event will be held at Shadow Lake in Greenwood, AR on January 21st. The run will begin at 10:00AM. The fee is $20 for early bird registration or $25 on the day of the race. 100% of the proceeds will benefit children at the Grace School in Uganda! Crystal Bridges offering new programs
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, 600 Museum Way in Bentonville, is kicking off a new program for 2017 called Member Scoop. Members of the museum will have access to special programing and tours as well as discounted prices for a number of special events. Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores
Opening of a new Jo-Ann store in Fort Smith, AR on February 2, 2017. Grand Opening celebrations are scheduled to take place on that Thursday through February 4, 2017. To support the store opening, a job fair will be held on December 6th and 7th at the Arkansas Work Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. The address is 616 Garrison Ave Forth Smith, AR 72901. The Mansfield/Huntington Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a Spaghetti Supper/Singing on Saturday, February 11th from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Mansfield Senior Center located at 509 S Main St in Mansfield (just south of the Mansfield Ball Park) Also, ‘JUST US’ a local bluegrass/gospel band will be performing! Tickets will be on sale at the door! Adults $5.00 and children 12 and under will eat FREE!! Spaghetti along with salad, bread sticks, tea and dessert will be served. FREE Amateur HAM Radio License Classes NOW Forming
Have you often wondered what it would be like to talk to the astronauts on the ISS or make new and renew old friendships from people from all over the world using a wire antenna and a modest radio?
Are you interested in true wireless communications or enjoy building science projects and showing all your friends and family how they work? Are you interested in weather related storm spotting and being able to report your sightings directly to the National Weather Service through the local Storm Spotters liaison? Becoming an Amateur Radio Operator or HAM as we’re also called can and will give you the skills and opportunity to learn and sharpen these skills.
The Fort Smith Area Amateur Radio Club is now taking reservations for a Technician Licensing Class beginning mid February 2017. The classes will be 2 and a half hours long each Saturday from 1pm thru 3:30pm starting Saturday Feb. 11, 2017 and end March 25. Location will be in the main conference room at Health South Rehabilitation Center located at 1401 South J Street in Fort Smith.
