The Greenwood Lady Bulldogs basketball team made its debut during the annual preseason Tip-Off celebration on Nov. 8, and now it’s ready to start the regular season.

Greenwood, which played a benefit game at Prairie Grove on Nov. 10, began the season with a 57-54 home win against Class 7A Bentonville on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at H.B. Stewart Bulldog Arena but lost a hard-fought game 69-26 to Class 7A Northside this past Thursday at Kaundart-Grizzly Fieldhouse.

Team members said they expect good things this season because they have been working hard and have the right mindset.

The Lady Bulldogs’ goal is to make it to the state tournament and win. The lady Bulldogs have done great things in the past seasons, and last season, they advanced to the state quarterfinals, where they lost to eventual state champion Jonesboro 34-32.

Motivation is the key to success. Their motivation is how bad they all want to go to state and win. So, they work hard to meet their goal. It comes down to preparation and how well they prepare themselves to reach their goal.

This year, the Lady Bulldogs have different strengths and weaknesses. Some players from this past season graduated, but more players moved up. The way they play has changed, too.

Fans will get the opportunity to see the Lady Bulldogs in action several times before the semester break. The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Southside Lady Mavericks this past Tuesday and will play at Morrilton (Nov. 29) before competing in the prestigious Tournament of Champions (Dec. 8-10) in Fort Smith.

Greenwood will host the H.B. Stewart Classic on Dec. 15-17 and will play at Rogers (Dec. 20) and at Heritage (Dec. 22) before Christmas. During the semester break, the Lady Bulldogs will play in a tournament at Mountain Home (Dec. 28-30).
