Hartford and Hackett art teachers Stephi Gean and Angela Wilson worked with the Center for Art and Education in Van Buren to bring “The Wonderful World of Art” children’s camp to the Hackett school campus. Approximately 25 students ages 6- 14 came daily from Mansfield, Cameron, OK, Hartford, Midland, and Hackett. With the most students represented, it was the first year for Hackett Schools to offer this program . Led by CAE Youth Programs Director Joyce Bowman, Summer camp venues ranged throughout the River Valley, with each camp running weekdays from 9 -12:00 a.m.
This year’s camp theme was the science of kinetic energy. With instruction from Art Teacher Tina Jenkins, students created a Calder stabile/ mobile, collaged a Matisse-styled figure in movement, created a pinwheel, using styles of artists: Varereli, Mondrian, and Pollack, and a Banyan tree. Students moved to music and created reflexive light in their work, staying engaged throughout the week, with amazing art to show for their efforts!
