Mohundro wins greeting card contest

Dustin Graham, Greenwood Democrat

Hallmark recently announced that Cara Mohundro, of Greenwood, had won $250 and a spot at a semi finalist in their "Funniest Pet Photo Card competition."

Mohundro's entry of her cat, Cleo, was selected out of over 7,000 entries in the "Your Pets", competition. According to Hallmark the overwhelming majority were pictures of dogs and cats as well as bunnies, turtles, horses, pigs, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds and even chinchillas. Ages of the pet owners varied from 15 to 93 years of age and were from every state in the U.S.

"I have several funny pictures of my cat because I do not have kids yet," said Mohundro." I picked one where she was just waking up from a nap so she was looking pretty skeptical and kind of went with that and did not expect any thing more to come of it."

About a month after she submitted her entry Mohundro stated that Hallmark sent her a letter saying that she had won the money and that they were going to begin seller her cards.

"For years, Hallmark consumers have approached us with incredible ideas for greeting cards," said Ingerlene Embry, editorial director at Hallmark. "We want to encourage that passion. People love to create and get great joy out of doing so. As a company built on creativity communicating and connecting, we understand that."

Mohundro's card is currently available at hallmarkcontest.com along with the other finalist. Each finalist card is available for purchase, can be viewed and voted on.

The card that receives the most votes will win a $1,000 and trip to Kansas City for a photo shoot with the owners pet. Voting is currently in progress and will continue until mid-September.

Mohundro's card will be for sell at local Hallmark stores from June through August. Cara stated that she might be involved in a card signing at the Central Mall location some time during that period.

Mohundro said that her mother is most excited of all and has been recruiting members of her church to go online and to vote for her daughter's greeting card.
