Marriage conference to be held in Greenwood

For the past 25 years, we have heard much about love, but the divorce rate has continued to rise.

Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, author of a new book Love & Respect, says, "The major problem I hear from wives, is 'He doesn't love me.' Wives are made to love, want to love, expect love. Many husbands fail to deliver. But as I kept studying Scripture and counseling couples, I finally saw the other half of the equation. Husbands aren't saying it much, but what they are thinking is, 'She doesn't respect me.' Husbands are made to be respected, want respect, expect respect. Many wives fail to deliver." As a result, two good-willed people end up on what Eggerichs calls the Crazy Cycle: without love she reacts without respect, without respect he reacts without love - it is a painful, negative cycle that has thousands of couples spinning out of control.

Beginning Sunday, January 7, at 6:00 p.m., First Baptist Church, Greenwood, will host a free video conference led by Dr. Eggerichs. For years, he has presented marriage conferences to thousands of couples, and his unique teaching is changing lives, restoring troubled marriages and making good marriages even better. Eggerichs is a great communicator who mixes humor with real life experiences to bring you practical advice that will restore, strengthen and improve any marriage relationship.

"As a pastor, I am constantly aware of the pressures couples face each day," says Ronnie Deal, pastor of First Baptist Church. "It is becoming more and more difficult for married couples to fulfill their vows and keep the relationship healthy and growing. I find many couples loose the sizzle they once had and their marriages quickly deteriorate. Marriages need encouragement now more than ever. I believe that the Love & Respect conference will add value to every married couple. It will strengthen, motivate and energize your marriage. My wife and I will be there, and we hope to see you there too."

The six consecutive Sunday sessions will last about an hour each week and will be held in the main auditorium. Childcare is provided and activities are planned for every age from birth through high school.

For more information about the conference, please call the church office at 996-2166. The conference and childcare are free. Workbooks are available for $5 per couple if you choose.
